Hepatitis E Specialist Doctor In Mumbai The transmission of Hepatitis E virus ( HEV ) can occur through contaminated food and water, blood transfusions, and through mother – to – child transmission. HEV generally causes a self - limited infection. The vast majority of patients are asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic. In symptomatic patients, jaundice is usually accompanied by nausea, malaise, vomiting, loss of appetite, abdominal pain and fever. The laboratory findings include derangement in liver function test blood reports. A small proportion of HEV – infected persons develop acute liver failure. This acute liver due to HEV occurs more frequently during pregnancy. In general, the initial test method of choice in blood is an anti – HEV IgM assay. The presence of IgM anti – HEV antibodies is suggestive of recent HEV infection.
